The Local History Collection is a reference and research collection of published materials and unpublished papers related to the history of the City of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley region, dating from approximately 1875 to the present. In addition to more than 1,500 books and pamphlets, the collection includes: extensive subject files, biographical files, maps, oral histories, photographs, and other materials. Local History also includes the following collections:

Local History Photos: The News Chronicle Collection of prints and negatives was donated to the Thousand Oaks Library by the Ventura County Star in 2001. These photos were printed in the News Chronicle from 1966 to 1994
Frank Knight Collection: The Frank Knight Collection of photographic negatives was donated to the Thousand Oaks Library in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Knight. This collection contains primarily aerial views of the Conejo Valley in the 1960s. It also includes views of many other areas in Ventura County
