Special Collections Reading Room

The Special Collections Department, the largest project supported by the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation, includes a local history collection, a book arts collection, and most particularly, the American Radio Archives.

Format of holdings include:

  • Manuscripts and personal papers
  • Over 20,000 radio and television scripts
  • 200 maps and charts
  • 50 oral history tapes
  • 10,000 photographs
  • 5,000 audio recordings

Members of the Foundation Board of Directors actively pursue the acquisition of collections from early radio personalities.  These collections are often donated or purchased for the American Radio Archives.  With a total collection volume of approximately 2,000 cubic feet and with inclusive dates of holdings from 1875 to present, the Special Collections at the Thousand Oaks Library is one of the largest collections of radio archives in the world.
