Since its inception, the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation has raised over $1.5 million in support of the libraries.

Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library

Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library provides financial support for enhancements to library collections, sponsors special educational and cultural programs, and provides volunteer assistance where needed.  The Friends were the primary fundraisers for the Children's Mural, the grand piano and the saltwater aquarium.  They sponsor the popular Used Book Sales, the Bestseller Rental Book Collection, the Friendly Book Discussion group, Summer Reading Club programs, Author appearances, and the Courtyard Serenade music series.  The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library is a major sponsor of the "One City, One Book, Thousand Oaks Reads" events premiering in Fall, 2007. The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library is a non-profit organization, made up entirely of volunteers, who are committed to promoting and enhancing the Thousand Oaks Library System.  For more information about the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library, please visit: http://www.ftol.org.

Genealogy Reading Room

Located in the Grant R. Brimhall Library, the Genealogy Reading Room boasts some tremendous resources for tracing your family tree, researching the history of an area, or just to browse. All the materials are listed in the library's TOMCat Web-based catalog.

We recommend visiting the Conejo Valley Genealogical Society Web site, which contains information on meetings, bus trips, books available for sale and other useful information.

Library Volunteers

Each month approximately 100 volunteers contribute their time and energy to various activities within the library.  Assignments range from patron registration to children's programs assistance.  Both the library and the volunteer are enriched through this interaction.

Applications for volunteer service may be obtained in the Grant R. Brimhall Library's Administration Offices, the Newbury Park Branch Library, or by clicking here.
