totalitarianism dystopia oligarchy enigmatic surveillance

The omnipresent, omnipotent Big Brother as the figurehead of a system of 24-hour surveillance; the primary character, Winston, and his partner, Julia; the slogan, "he who controls the past, controls the future;" all components of the book unite to create an ultimately invigorating and enjoyable plot. Five stars with no question.

I think this book was bad because it was very unintertaining and i only read it because i had nothing else to do. I do not reccomend that any1 should read it. I also found it offensive

Another great Actor's Guide book. The second in the series, it only adds to the fun of the first book. Jarrod just always seems to find himself around murders... And his curiousity always makes him want to do something about it! He's too cute. Another great book.

The final (for now) book in Rick Copp's Actor's Guide series, and I love just like all the others. Jarrod in London is just as great as Jarrod in Beverly Hills or Florida. In addition to it's usual funny moments this book also had such a sad moment when Charlie left... But then a romantic reunion to seal the deal. So cute. Another great book that has me hoping Rick Copp has another Actor's Guide in mind!

I think this book was relatable to teenagers because a lot of the topics that were disscused in the book can teach teenagers things that they are curious about. Another reason that i thought the book can relate to teenagers is that the whole plot is basically what goes on in a teenagers life, and on top of that, it is a very intersting and funny book to read.

I think this book was excellent because it fully portrays the vivid lifestyle of upper class teens living in LA. The main character, Anna Percy, arrives from New York City to try to change her image by adjusting to this lifestyle, but she starts to realize if what she is doing is right. Gossip Girl fans will enjoy this series to full satisfaction.

I think this book was imaginative and mysterious because Eoin Colfer is the best author EVER!!!! Besides J. K. Rowling, of course. He wove fairies and elves and magical creatures into the same story that included laws, police, advanced technology, and plots to rule the world. That is an amazing feat, and he made it into a book that I would want to read. I think that Eoin Colfer should keep writing and adding more books to this series, because they are one of my favorites, and I don't want it to end.

I think this book was very interesting because it took place a long time ago in Rome and you learn a lot about Roman people, their conection with their slaves and with other higher/lower ranked Roman citizens all while seven kids and their strict teacher solve a mystery including a Roman Senator disguised as a soothsayer (a fortune teller) and a sabotaged temple. A good book that you want to finish so you know how it ends but that you also perplex yourself by not wanting to end.

I think this book was mysterious because Martin Booth kept my entire family on our toes as we read it and its sequel. With real facts about alchemy, this story tells of a 12 year old boy who "hibernated" for 600 years, and opens a panel in the wall, startling the new owners of his uncles house, twins Pip and Tim. They are caught up in the mysteries of alchemy, with new and startlying discoveries around every bend, as they race to defeat the terror, de Loude`ac. De Loude`ac wishes to complete the study of the creation of homunuculus, a man born not of a woman, and without a soul. De Loude`ac wishes to create an army of these 'fake men' to conquer the world. Pip, Tim, and Sebastian (600 year old) are the only ones who know of his plans, and are the only ones capable of defeating him. In a race against time, in a world where they have no control, Pip and Tim are swept into a war of magic, in which they are ignorant. They're only source of survival lies with Sebatian, who is dependant on them. They meet many wonders and sources of confusion and marvel on their journey to stop the evil reign of terror.

This book was interesting, to say the least. As a modern version of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray", this book focused more on in what ways Dorian Gray became wicked and corrupt, and chose to highlight the actions that made his portrait, or in this case video, ugly. A bit too much detail for me, but still a very interesting book. The ending also put a very strange twist on things, though really strayed from the actual ending.

Eragon, a young farm boy turned into an almost elf-like being after trained by the very best in Ellesmera. With Saphira by his side he is almost unbeatable, and the Varden is very proud. I cannot wait for the next book!

I really enjoyed this book. It was written in very simple language, due to it's target audience, but it was still very fun to read. The story itself was cute with very different characters. Even the unlikeable character of Vidia still manages to catch your attention and adoration. Gail Carson Levine's talented writing matched with David Christiana's beautiful artwork also made this book a great read.

I think this book was a great suspense novel because the antagonist "A" would send mysterious tests and just when you think you figured out who "A" is, that person is suddenly not a suspect because of an unexpected U- turn in the plot. I can’t wait for the next novel, Perfect, to find out who "A" is!

I think this book was absolutely amazing. I could relate to so many parts, such as the fact that the main character raised pet chickens in her backyard, and her funny experiences with them (like how they tore up her backyard lawn and how she discovered one day that chickens indeed do lay eggs!). Then, at one point in the book, she goes to Greenhaven, a home for mentally ill people (like her uncle), with her father. Her experiences there remind me of the assisted living home that I often go to. Then, of course, is the main character's relationship problems. They're so quirky and funny and cute all at the same time, and that's the main problem through the entire book. Overall, the book was extremely satisfying, though I thought it ended rather abruptly.

The blend of the setting, an anachronistic Tokyo, and obscure, almost-futuristic characters composes a novel of epic proportions, alternating between the dreamlike trance of the End of the World and the not-so-realistic Hard-Boiled Wonderland. An enjoyable read that utilizes mediocrity and says, confidently, that what lies underneath the surface of each individual is ultimately more significant than anything else in the world, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World unquestionably deserves five stars.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the last book of a series of seven about The Boy Who Lived, Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. In this book the three friends are searching for the seven Horcruxes. Objects that hold a part of Vol-excuse me his name is jinxed, You-Know-Who's soul.So to finish off You-Know-Who they have to find and destroy all of the horcruxes first.I loved this book because I felt as if I was there experiencing all that Harry did. At times you will jump up and down with joy and at other times you will lay down and sob with remorse. This book finishes the series with life and death and nobody could have finished it better than J.K.Rowling.

Rowling explains a wizarding world and a school of witchcraft and wizardry where Harry Potter or the chosen one finds an old Potions book that helps him to succeed in every potions task he does. Harrry is the Quidditch caption battling for the house cup. Harry is trying to handle many things especially tracking down a death eater Malfoy. I strongly advise you to read this book it is soo good and so are the other books.

I thought this book was sad because it was about a boy named Brian Robeson, 13 years old, who was on a plane flying to his father, but then the plane crashed in the Canadian wilderness. Brian was forced to survive by himself, but the mosquitos and porcupine were making him want to die to be put out of the misery of bites all over his body and his food being eaten by others in the forest. However, this book was also captivating because you always wanted to know what Brian was going to do the next day to survive.

I think this book was exciting because it so was so well written that it made me feel like I was there with the main character surviving in the Canadian forest. I found it quite impressive that the main character could learn to make fire, hunt, fish, and survive alone for two whole months after being stranded by an airplane crash. The best part of the book "Hostile Hospital" is the craniometry because Klaus (middle sibling) and Sunny (baby sister) have disguised themselves as doctors to fool Count Olaf's comrades into letting them give their sister the craniometry after they've captured her and want to murder her by giving her the surgery. So Klaus and Sunny stall until the anesthasia wears off and then they try to defend themselves using a rusty knife. Finally they decide to make a run for it, but Olaf commits arson and sets the hospital on fire so that there is no escape. The three siblings decide to hitch a ride in the trunk of his car and attempt to stay quiet and not get caught.

I think this book was very creative, because the author tells the story of Wonderland, with a whole different set of eyes. He ties in the story Alice in Wonderland, and the power of Imagination. Alyss lives in a world of enchantment and amazement, as princess, and heir to the throne of Wonderland. When her mother's evil sister, Redd, launches an attack on the kingdom in an effort to take control of the land, on Alyss's 7th birthday, it takes them all by surprise. Alyss is forced to leave her home and loved ones, unsure of the future, and not ready for what is to come. Alyss is separated from her family friend/body guard, Hatter Madigan, and teleported to a land where a creative mind is not accepted. She met the author, Dodgson, and told him of her adventures. He wrote a book about it, with her hoping that someone will recognize the truth, and rescue her. Dodgson changed everything about it, even misspelling her name. While this is all fine and dandy, Wonderland is in the worst of states. buildings have been knocked down to make new "Redd apartments" and "Redd buildings". The people are in chaos, suspects of rebels are dragged to the Crystal Mines, where they work until death. Looters and thieves live in prosperity, while good, honest folks are the ones who get the worst end of the deal. Redd is a horrible ruler, making complex rules, and whoever disobeys them, gets their head chopped off. While Alyss was away from Wonderland, everybody thought she was crazy, sprouting nonsense of being a princess of an imaginary world, and was soon shipped off to an orphanage. After a while, Alyss gave up, and submitted to the world, becoming a new, well-read, beautiful English woman. In the mean time, Hatter is searching the entire world for Alyss, and getting no where. Finally, he sees the book and a newspaper article about her marriage to a prince, and realizes what happened. He interrupts her marriage (even though she doesn't love him), and brings her back to Wonderland, with assassins on their back. When she was taken back to the imaginary world of her youth, she is in shock, with rebels, old friends, friendly people who used to work in the castle, expecting her to be their amazing warrior queen. She can hardly use her imagination, and is in desparate need of total re-teaching. Redd discovers of her niece, who is the new symbol for peace and prosperity, and is intent on murdering the true heir to the kingdom. A one-on-one battle is expected, an the outcome is unkown. Alyss is quickly becoming stronger, and Redds strength and power is becoming questionable next to Alyss's... What will happen next?

I think this book was moving because Golding replaces the defects of society using children. He places the schoolboys on a deserted island and describes the animal-like characteristics portrayed when they become desperate for food and shelter. Internal conflicts between two leading boys splits the group apart as the idea of rescue fades and is overshadowed by the need for meat.

This was an interesting book. It was a bit confusing to me, primarily because of the way Foster wrote it. Important events aren't stressed like they are in some books, so you miss them sometimes, and actions are described differently than they are now. sometimes I wasn't sure what the characters were doing until later in the story. Although I didn't understand what was going on a lot of the time, I got the overall story and enjoyed it, and I feel that if I were to read it again, I would understand it better and enjoy it more. The characters were great: Maurice, Clive, and Alec. I loved the differences between them all.

At first the girls stay farther apart than ever, but finally they start to stand up for each other and they quote from Little Women, the book club book that the moms picked which the girls didn't like at first. I liked this book because it described how four girls who loathed each other and bullied each other, put aside their differences and created a friendship fit to last a long time!

Before I read this book, I was precautioned by several people that the book would be dissappointment--a real bore. These warnings frightened me, but I read "New Moon," the sequel to "Twilight" (which I loved, by the way), nonetheless. And I was not dissappointed--quite on the contrary, I was blown away. Honestly, I liked this book more than "Twilight" itself! In this book, Bella turns eighteen (a bummer for her because it means she officially is and will always be older than her boyfriend, Edward the vampire). The Cullens through an extravagant party in celebration. Unfortunately, while opening one of her presents, Bella gets a paper cut--never a good idea in front of a company of vampires. The situation grows quickly out of hand when Edward's younger brother loses control. After this scene plays out, the family decides to leave the small town of Forks for Bella's safety. Without Edward around, Bella tries to recover and go back to life before and fails miserably. But then, she starts hanging out with Jacob Black--a very close family friend. As her friendship with Jacob escalades, she becomes happy again. But then a lot of things happen at once... What can you say? I guess Bella Swan is "a magnet for trouble." This book (though without Edward for a vast majority) is a masterpiece in motion, filled to the brim with suspense and romance (but please read "Twilight" first!). Stephenie Meyer, bravo: you have done it again!

Although no one has gone through what Bella has gone through, we can understand her sorrow and despair when Edward leaves. We can also understand her feelings of gratitude when she sees him again months later.

So, the pre/misconception of the Twilight Series is: girly, romantic, the norm that you hear. Once you look past that, it's actually really interesing and suspenseful. If you don't mind a little guy description every so often (or more), then it's a great read. Read the first three books then lock yourself in your room on August 2nd until you finish Breaking Dawn and review it in time fore the Reading Club deadline.

I think this book was amazing because Martin Booth, once again, astounds everybody with his new book, Soul Stealer, sequel to Doctor Illuminatus. In this story, Pip and Tim start out at their new school. Turns out their Science teacher, Mr. Yoland, is a 14th century alchemy dabbler, and the school bully is a creature that serves him. Sebastian starts out at the school too to keep an eye on them. As they try to figure out more to Mr. Yoland's evil scheme, they are getting more and more up to their necks in trouble and danger. When de Loude`ac joins the chase, the trio know that they are in trouble, and when a field trip turns into a plot to complete Mr. Yoland's evil plan, they know they have got to act.

I think this book was creative because it describes the problems of a southern woman that must face the turmoil of her decline from rich to poor which drags with it her lifestyle and eventually her ability to live on in the same manner.

I think this book was thrilling because everything that happened was surprising. I especially loved the end when Max had to rescue the other Potentials. I was also happy in the end when Ronin was accepted as a good guy. It was a good thing that he did not die. My favorite part about this book was that even though it was not real it could be.

I think this book was intriguing because ....I could not stop reading it! This book is well written and I could relate to the situations! Meg Cabot does an excellent job of narrating the story as a junior in high school. The story is about a girl, Jenny, who anonymously writes an advice column at her high school, and she must keep secrets from many people. When a very famous and good-looking teen actor comes to visit the high school to get experience for a movie, she is chosen by the faculty to guide the popular, but disguised, star around campus. He is shocked to see how people treat each other in high school - making fun of each other - while nobody stops them. Jenny then makes important decisions and decides to help others. Recommended for readers in grades 7-11.

I think this book was pretty entertaining because it had a lot of action in it. One downside is that the action was pretty slow until the last 3 chapters. The things that I wanted to happen did not happen until I was almost done with the book. The good thing is that I am going to read the next book to see what happens next!

Miles Wednesday has made friends with a tiger and a song angel, and is going to join the circus. Dr. Tau Tau may know the key to Miles missing parents, so they secretly journey together in hope of finding Miles parents. In this 400 page novel anything is possible when Jon Berkeley is writing. Berkeley put as much action in this book as I have ever read. If you want a good thriller read this. It's great!

Wow. What a book. That was my immediate reaction to Stephenie Meyer's incredible romantic thriller, "Twilight." In this sizzling book, Bella moves from Phoenix to Forks, a small town, to take care of her father. She hates everything about Forks--too small, too cold, too boring, etc. But then she meets Edward. Edward is perfect: strong, fast, agile, bright, and, of course, handsome. Bella falls heads over heels in love with the strange Edward and Edward falls for Bella. Bella, however, doesn't know that Edward is a vampire. Then she finds out... but she isn't scared. On the contrary, Bella feels comfortable around Edward and his family of vampires. The couple face a terrible dilemna: should they stay together, despite the danger? The well-written plot propells forward with suspense and romance. This page turner deserves six stars [over five]! Bravo to Mrs. Meyer on her formidable debut!

The Two Princesses of Bamarre is a fabulous story filled with dragons, sorcerors and other mythical creatures. The book is about two princesses who are as different as they are close. Meryl the brave, adventurous sister becomes sick with Grey death that has killed every person to get it. So Addie, the NOT so adventurous sister who is afraid of spiders, sets out on a journey to find the cure. The story describes how a girl overcomes her fears to save her sister and how on the way she makes unbreakable friendships.

I thought this book was realistic because it was about a boy who witnessed a murder while he was sitting in a cherry tree and once he told the police about the murder, the murderer was after him. I also thought it was suspenseful because I wanted to keep reading until I finished the book to find out what would happen next and what would happen to the boy and the murderer in the end. I would recommend this book to all types of readers even if they don't like mystery books because this book is superlative.

Despite their new difficulties as adults, their friendship remains as they face a dangerous ruler, cunning mages, or magicians, and cruel romances. Any fan of Pierce will throughly enjoy reading this novel and just beg for more.

This book provided an abstract view of Japanese culture through a spectrum of philosophical topics, literary allusions, and Westernized perspectives. It includes concepts of love, the nature of a flawed society, and even the impact of Japan's World War II. I highly enjoyed the parallelism with Murakami's well, Toru Okada's wide range of acquaintances and their diverse personalities, and, of course, Mr. Wind-Up Bird himself. Without hesitation, this book deserves five stars (maybe even six).

I think this book was a perfect to Chasing Vermeer because it has the same mind twisting theme, very femiliar but so different. Calder, Petra, and Tommy (old friend) set out to save a monumental home in their own little town. Trying to save one thing led to solving a robbery. Once again the team solved yet another crime.
